Purple and radiant, these hellebores face towards the earth as they grow upwards. I knew their time was limited, that soon they would be replaced by bluebells, and I had to paint them. There is something miraculous about these delicate flowers - they peer downwards, not wanting attention, and yet demanding it anyway. Fierce and full of quiet pride, they stand bold against the bright pink canvas.
