Tangled garden III was inspired by a recent exploration of a Matisse book.
I stumbled across the book when visiting my mentors studio. There was a particular sketch - so simple - just a line drawing of flowers which I just became totally obsessed with.
I spent the rest of the day creating my own responses to this piece.
This particular piece was inspired by my mothers’ garden which is currently in a spring awakening, with flowers blooming everywhere.
I wanted to see if I could equally capture this effortless quality of line to bring flowers to life. Working in black and white allowed me to focus on form and line rather than colour.
